How Biohazard Cleanup Works
Biohazard cleanup follows strict steps to protect the people doing the work and the people who live in the home afterward.
The process
- Assessment. The technician identifies how far contamination spread, including below the surface.
- Containment. The area is sealed to stop cross-contamination.
- Removal. Contaminated porous materials are cut out and bagged as biohazard waste.
- Cleaning and disinfection. Hard surfaces are cleaned, then disinfected with EPA-registered products.
- Odor treatment. Air and structure are deodorized.
- Verification. Surfaces can be tested to confirm they're clean.
- Disposal. Biohazard waste is transported and disposed of under Florida Department of Health rules.
Safety standards
Technicians follow the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030) and wear full protective equipment, including respirators, suits, gloves and boot covers.
